When operators found themselves with nothing to do, especially on a long Saturday night shift, they used their time to create images on teleprinters using nothing more than the character sets, and overtyping where necessary to produce some remarkable images.

The identify of the artists has long been forgotten. Or perhaps you may know?

The image of President Kennedy was sent from New York the month after his assassination in 1963.
